Toxic Superfoods – Oxalates – A Word of Caution

For many years I assumed I had been eating well, lots of organic natural foods, primarily plant based. At least I had thought I was eating well.

Recently a good friend of mine Nigel loaned me a book called Toxic Superfoods – How Oxalate overload is making you sick – and how to get better, written by Sally K Norton.

What follows is a brief summary of this important subject to get things started, and I would suggest reading the book, or at least doing some research into this.

As I started reading it I came across things like spinach, beetroot, almonds and chocolate and a few other that I enjoyed eating, and had not linked up that they could be part of the reason I was having aches and pains and a few other things from time to time.  Many of what I assumed to be health foods can in reality cause health problems.  Another inversion. Having mostly removed them from my diet I have noticed an improvement.

What really surprised me was that in certain quantities oxalates are very damaging and can be lethal. Why is no one talking about this and why do some many health food places actively promote these as healthy?  At best I assume they are ignorant, as I was, on the subject of oxalates.

Oxalates are chemical toxins produced by many plants. Oxalates are poisonous, and derivations include oxalic acid, oxalate salts and oxalate crystals.

Many people have found relief and some reversed a variety of conditions and symptoms, such as hypothyroidism, osteopenia, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, arthritis, improve sleep and concentration, improved mood, osteoporosis, kidney stones simply by swapping high-oxalate foods for low-oxalate alternatives. There are many more indicators of oxalate poisoning, and it can cause death!

So, for example, if you,  like me thought that the spinach smoothies and juices, and almond milk were health giving, they are, according to this information the exact opposite.
